2015 Free or Cheap Summer Fun

With your Penny Saver home for the summer, we know that it can be difficult to find affordable ways to spend time with your family outside of the confines of your home. Here are some free or inexpensive ideas to do with your Penny Savers!

Visit the fire station. Kids love visiting the fire station, where fire fighters would let them sit in their big fire engines and load them up with stickers, coloring books and more.

Visit a pet store. Think of it as a mini petting zoo. Just warn the kids before you go that you won't be bringing home a pet (unless you actually want to). You also could take the kids to the humane society, which might need volunteers to walk the dogs.

Take a trip to the dollar store. Take your Penny Saver to the dollar store for a little math lesson. You can tell them how much they could spend, and they had to find items that didn't exceed that amount.

Public Library - Most libraries are free and open to the public with a membership card. Take your Penny Saver for a tour of your public library, have them pick out books of their choice, let them check the books out, and read with them at the library and at home! Take a look at the list of books about Money that might be available at your library! While enjoying reading, learn how you can earn a free book from Barnes and Noble!

Bowling - Kids Bowl Free Program offers 2 free games for Penny Savers who register with the bowling program. The participating Bowling Alleys in the Pensacola area are Cordova Lanes and De Luna Lanes. Find out more!

Home Depot & Lowes Workshops -  Take your Penny Saver to a Home Depot or Lowes store for a kid's workshop event and have fun with a hands-on building activity for free!

Naval Aviation Museum & The Blue Angels - Pensacola is home to one of the most incredible museums in our nation and home to the world-famous Blue Angels. Check out the free Naval Aviation Museum and pick a date to meet the Blues.

Camp in Your Backyard - Don’t underestimate the amount of fun camping in the backyard can be! Just grab some sleeping bags, tent, pillows, and a flashlight to create an ultimate summer night activity. You can even have a cook out around a grill or fire. Spending family time outside will make the night feel special. The Great American Backyard Campout is taking place on Saturday, June 28th. The National Wildlife Federation's Board of Directors and other friends have offered to donate $2 in support of NWF's wildlife conservation work for every person that participates in this year’s Campout— up to $400,000! Pledge to participate in this year's Great American Backyard Campout and help make an important difference for America's wildlife!
